Your first acupuncture treatment will be longer than subsequent sessions. This allows time for a full Chinese medical diagnosis and treatment.

We will ask a number of questions to get a complete picture of your health and lifestyle, including a medical history, taking your pulse, and looking at your tongue. We will make an assessment and put together your personal acupuncture treatment plan based on this information. Assessment may also include suggestions to enhance the long-term effectiveness of acupuncture treatment, such as dietary and lifestyle advice.

Acupuncture points are selected according to your symptoms as well as the state of your underlying health. The points chosen may not always be close to the part of the body where the problem is experienced.

There are many acupuncture points on the body, and we will use only a small selection for each treatment. We may need to use points on your torso and back, in which case a gown and blanket will be provided. In some cases, other forms of treatment may also be applied such as Tui Na (Chinese massage), moxibustion (warming therapy) or Gua Sha (a massage technique using a specialised tool).
